6. PROJECT BACKGROUND:

Many people in Buganda are faced with a problem of unsafe water and unhygienic living conditions. There is lack of capacity in the rural communities to access safe water, which has greatly increased water borne diseases and unhygienic living conditions.

7. OBJECTIVES

Integrated Water and Sanitation Project (IWASP) has the following objectives:

(a) To strengthen community initiatives to improve access and management of water sources, by building capacity to access and manage safe water sources as well as domestic hygienic living

(b) To improve on general health conditions for the people of Buganda through reduction of the incidence of water and sanitation related diseases.

(d) To organize, co-ordinate all key players and stakeholders in the water/sanitation sub-sector

(e) To organize communities and stakeholder into proper water user pressure groups.

8. OUTPUTS

Changed attitudes towards water usage – protection.

Well-protected springs and shallow wells.

Reduced incidence of water and sanitation related diseases.

Increased levels of self-reliance in communal activities.

Pit latrines in place and in use.

Improved domestic hygiene.
