Owekitiibwa J.G. Mulwanyammuli Ssemwogerere is an Administrator/Manager and Banker by profession and a Graduate of Law, Management Science and Economics of the University of Dar-es-Salaam, Bradford, Strathclyde (U.K.), and the Development Banking Centre of India.

Born at Mitala Maria Hospital in Mawokota county, the young Ssemwogerere had his early education at Kitovu, Bukalasa, Department of Science & Mathmatics at the Uganda Technical College and Uganda College of Commerce.

As a revolutionary University student at Dar es Salaam, Ssemwogerere took advantage of the many liberation movements, at that time head-quartered in Tanzania, to practically express his ardent solidarity with the struggle to emancipate Africa from political and economic colonialism.

He has attended many International Seminars, Workshops and courses in Uganda, East Africa, Southern Africa, U.K. Ireland, U.S.A., India and Austria. He was a student leader and an active sportsman throughout his school days.

Owek. J.G. Mulwanyammuli Ssemwogerere was the Managing Director of Sembule Investment Bank which has since changed its name to Allied Bank International; and was also the Chairman, Board of Directors, Nile Complex and Uganda International Conference Centre, immediately before he was appointed by the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II to the highest and esteemed office of the Katikkiro of Buganda (Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Buganda) in 1994 todate.

J.G. Mulwanyammuli Ssemwogerere has a long career history in many Government and par-Government Departments and Institutions, both in Uganda and abroad. He was first employed in the now defunct East African Community in Dar-es-Salaam as an Officer-in-Charge of Organisation and Methods (O & M). He later joined Management Training and Advisory Centre and Makerere University as Lecturer. He was appointed by the President of Uganda, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as a District Administrator (now RDC) in Masaka in 1988.

Rt. Hon. J.G.M. Ssemwogerere has in the past also worked as a General Manager of National Housing and Construction Corporation, and as Managing Director of Reconstruction and Development Corporation - a corporation set up by the United Nations in partnership with the Government of Uganda, to rehabilitate the war-ravaged towns of Uganda.

Management and Banking have been the major pre-occupation of Ssemwogerere's career. He worked with the Commercial of Africa and also with the Bank of Uganda. After a stint at the Economic Development Institute of the World Bank, he joined the Uganda Development Bank. At this Bank, he spent 13 years, 8 of which were at Senior Management and Head of Department level. During part of this period, he was attached to the African Development Bank in Abidjan. He served as Honorary Secretary to the respected Uganda Institute of Bankers for over 5 years.

Rt. Hon. J.G.M. Ssemwogerere has headed various social and voluntary organisations; these include inter alia, Uganda Scouts Association (Southern Region), Masaka Sports Club, Rubaga Cathedral National Foundation; besides being an active member of the Uganda Red Cross Society.

Rt. Hon. Ssemwogerere has a hand also in business, and in this capacity, he is a member of the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and also of the Private Sector Foundation of Uganda. He is the proprietor of Hotel La Nova situated at Masaka. He is also the Executive Chairman of a Holding Company known as Masaka Investments Limited. He also practices arable and animal farming.

Hon. J.G.M. Ssemwogerere is of the Lugave Clan and is born to Mr. Yasenti Mulwanya (Deceased) and Mrs. Bernadeth Nantale Mulwanya of Nzizi Kasaana, Buddu County, Masaka District. The late Yasenti Mulwanya was a Retired Civil Servant after working for 35 years in Kabaka's Government.

Ssemwogerere belongs to a lineage of the legendary Sebwana Ggere of Malanga, Ssese, who, for a long time, presided over the Kingdom of Buganda during the turbulent years when Buganda did not have a substantive Kabaka. He is married to Lady Letitia Mbalabye Kawere Ssemwogerere; herself, a grand daughter of late Stanislaus Mugwanya, a former powerful Chief Judge in the Kigndom of Buganda. Their union has born them many a Lugave child.
